Assignment
Develop a paper where you:
- Describe the service system for young children and their families in your country.
Who are the children? How are they identified? ⇒ screening, point of access, etc. What does intervention consist of for the child?
How are families served? How are they involved in early childhood intervention? Please address such elements as assessment, intervention, support, and evaluation .
What makes up the system of services in your country?
How do service providers collaborate?
- Make a comparative analysis of systems for service delivery in two countries.
Who are the children served - how are they identified?
How are families served? How are they involved in early childhood intervention?
What makes up the system of services? How does the system operate?
How do service providers collaborate?
- Discuss factors that contribute to the similarities and/or differences between intervention in the two contexts.
Field Experiences
- Meet with a policy maker in the local system to learn how the system operates. Describe the service system. Who is served? How are services funded? What is the system for preparing personnel for early intervention? How does the family participate in the process?
- Observe how service providers collaborate in carrying out an assessment or evaluation of a child. What are the implications of their collaboration for the assessment process? For intervention?
- Meet with service providers and learn how they relate to each other around intervening with a child and the child’s family. What assumptions about children underlie their relationships? About families?
- Visit a day care or preschool to see how service providers interact in that setting. Analyze their interaction and its effect on service delivery for the child and the family.
